Lincoln City boosted their position in the play-off places after a fine 2-0 win over Lincolnshire rivals Scunthorpe United.

Simon Yeo's very early strike set up The Imps for a huge derby win over their local rivals while Gary Taylor-Fletcher capped the victory with sublime second goal late on.

The result was a missed opportunity for Brian Laws's side, as The Iron remain third and level on points with fourth place Swansea City.

It took The Imps just 32 seconds to take the lead against their North Lincolnshire opponents, as a long ball forward saw Yeo control left-footed in front of two Scunthorpe defenders on the edge of the box.

He quickly turned and struck left-footed past his markers and a diving Paul Musselwhite in the Scunthorpe goal to make it 1-0 - much to the delight of the Sincil Bank crowd.

Moments later, Musselwhite needed to tip over Ben Futcher's near post header to deny Lincoln a second goal.

Both sides traded chances towards the break, with Ian Baraclough having his header stopped by Imps goalkeeper Alan Marriott while Taylor-Fletcher saw his left foot strike well blocked by Musselwhite, as The Imps took a one-goal lead into half time.

The second half saw Iron boss Brian Laws replace captain Andy Crosby with Marcus Williams for the restart, with the defender having gone off with a suspected broken nose after following a challenge in the first half.

Moments later, Musselwhite was called on to make another fine save from Kevin Sandwith's left foot free kick while Baraclough failed to beat Marriott with two second half efforts of his own.

In fact, Lincoln sealed the points with a goal on the counter-attack after the home side cleared a Scunthorpe free kick.

Taylor-Fletcher broke free down the right before sublimely chipping the ball over Musselwhite (pictured) from the edge of the box to make it 2-0 with 12 remaining.

In the end, it was a well-deserved win for Lincoln while Scunthorpe failed to cause their hosts too many problems over the course of 90 minutes.
