SCUNTHORPE defender Nathan Stanton has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Irons boss Brian Laws made the 22-year-old an offer to extend his stay at Glanford Park at the end of last season and Stanton admitted he was always going to sign it.

"I was always definitely going to sign, that was never an issue," Stanton told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"The only thing I had a few reservations about was the length of the contract and I felt a two-year deal was what was best for me.

"I'm still as happy at Scunthorpe as I have ever been and I didn't have contact with any other clubs during the summer.

"We are not too far away from being a very good side, we showed that last season and hopefully we will do the same again this time round."
