Our top five moments from the Football League in 2014 - does your favourite make the cut?
5. Leicester's promotion to the Premier League
The Foxes rounded off a fantastic season in 2014 by breaking through the 100-point mark to seal automatic promotion to the Premier League. Nigel Pearson’s Foxes finished nine points clear of second place Burnley to end their 10-absense from the top flight.
4. Chris Dagnall sending Orient to the play-off final
With Orient leading by a goal on aggregate against promotion contenders Peterborough, Russell Slade’s men pushed to book their place in the Wembley showpiece and Chris Dagnall duly obliged. After a lung-busting 70-yard run, the striker latched onto Shaun Batt’s cross to send the Eastenders into raptures.
3. QPR's last-gasp play-off victory over Derby
Harry Redknapp’s QPR were down to 10 men following Gary O’Neill’s dismissal after an hour. Many fancied the Rams to go on and end their five-year absence from the top flight. But Rangers hung on until the 90th minute when Bobby Zamora produced an instinctive one-touch finish to snatch promotion from the jaws of defeat.
2. Paul Caddis’s 93rd minute equaliser sealing safety for Birmingham
A comeback to rival all comebacks, May 3 is a day that will live long in the memory of many a Birmingham City fan. With seconds to go at Bolton’s Macron Stadium Lee Clarke’s Blues needed a goal from anyone to avoid dropping into England’s third tier and right-back Paul Caddis proved to be the unlikely saviour.
1. Alex Revell single-handedly dragging his side into the Championship
Rotherham trailed 2-0 at half time in the League One play-off final at Wembley until Alex Revell took matter into his own hands. First he poked home from a few yards out to halve the deficit before looping an audacious 35-yard volley to send his manager cantering down the touchline.
