Lee Clark – Blackpool’s fourth manager this year – starts with defeat to Ipswich

Lee Clark's reign as Blackpool boss began with a 2-0 defeat at home to Ipswich

I think Lee will find at Blackpool pretty much what he left at Birmingham: an honest bunch of players that needs some quality additions to give them a better chance of surviving. It was always going to be a tough ask in his first game to play against probably the most hard-working side in the division in Ipswich, and so it proved. The deadly duo, David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy, struck again while the young lad Luke Hyam was creating havoc. Mick McCarthy’s done a brilliant job at Ipswich and Lee will be looking at Mick and what he’s done there. Mick has been able to build but when he took over, they were 24th in the division; 24 months later, they are right on the heels of the play-off places.

It’s Fulham and Leeds next for Blackpool and Lee will be hoping he can win at least one of them. I think the chairman was a bit harsh to sack Jose Riga without really backing him fully with funds. Lee will have to work within the financial parameters at that club to bring in players but there are a lot of players available.

Gary Rowett begins life as Birmingham boss with a point at Wolves

Wolves and Birmingham drew 0-0 in the Sky Bet Championship on Sunday

It was a major boost for Birmingham to keep a clean sheet - especially after they lost 8-0 to Bournemouth in their last game. This wasn’t a boring 0-0, though. Both keepers were called into action and in the latter stages Wolves piled on the pressure. Subs David Edwards and Bakary Sako both had chances late on - and Birmingham could only hope for the embarrassment of riches Wolves have, who can bring them on to the pitch! It wasn’t a win for Birmingham but a draw is a step in the right direction and it was a victory for organisation and big hearts. Their new 4-1-4-1 system worked for them, too.

Grant Holt and Nahki Wells combine well as Huddersfield’s unbeaten run goes on

Nottingham Forest are now eight games without a win in the Championship after they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat to Huddersfield.

It’s seven games unbeaten now for Chris Powell’s Huddersfield side - but it all started with a 3-0 defeat to their local rivals Leeds. Chris Powell has come in there and given the team confidence. Captain Mark Hudson at the back is really solid, Grant Holt has gone up front and his partnership with Nahki Wells is working like it did with James Vaughan; the big-man/little-man combination is working well. But the biggest change we’ve seen during this run is in Sean Scannell, who has got back to his best. The confidence Powell has given him by giving him a run in the side shows and he’s performed brilliantly.

Bristol City remain the only club in the Football Legaue to still be unbeaten this season

A look back at Saturday's action from Sky Bet League 1.

Bristol City are on an amazing run. They’re 16 unbeaten this season - but Steve Cotterill will remind you that actually they’re 22 games unbeaten, if you go back to the end of the last campaign! He’s a very pragmatic coach and he’ll be pleased with the clean sheet they got in their 1-0 win over Oldham. He’ll be even more pleased with their well-worked free-kick, which Kieran Agard finished off. Frank Fielding in goal made some great saves as well. The real bonus was that six of the rest of the top nine all lost, though. That’s an extra couple of points for them. How often does that happen? But that’s the nature of the division and how tight it is and if you’re not on your mettle, you will get beaten.

Wycombe fight back to hold on to top spot in League Two

A look back at Saturday's action from Sky Bet League 2.

Wycombe showed the character in their team by coming back from behind. They gave away an early penalty, which Danny Hylton picked himself up to finish with aplomb. But Wycombe asked themselves, can we respond? Can we get better? The introduction of Hogan Ephraim had a real impact and Wycombe responded really well to the set back, with Paul Hayes pulling them level before Peter Murphy arrived late in the box from midfield to score his third in three games to make it 2-1. Oxford went on to miss a stonewall penalty - I read in some press reports that Hylton’s effort went over the car park! But you can forgive him because he’s had a fantastic season. He’s been the driving force behind their points haul.
