David Mooney joins Southend on free transfer

Southend have signed striker David Mooney on a free transfer from Leyton Orient.

Mooney, 30, who was out of contract at Orient, has signed a two-year deal with the newly-promoted League One side.

The Irishman made over 150 appearances in four years with the Londoners and scored nine goals for the O's last season.

Mooney began his career with Shamrock Rovers and had spells at Longford Town and Cork City before joining Reading in 2008.

He failed to appear for Reading's first team but had spells on loan at Stockport, Norwich, Charlton and Colchester before joining Orient in 2011.
