Chesterfield are still hopeful of persuading Jimmy Ryan to reject his other suitors and re-sign at the Proact Stadium.
The 26-year-old midfielder's contract expires at the end of June and he has been free to discuss terms with other teams, and a possible reunion with his old Spireites boss Paul Cook at Portsmouth has been mooted. However, speaking to Chesterfield's official website, Cook's replacement in Derbyshire, Dean Saunders, is keeping his fingers crossed that Ryan will stay put. "I'm negotiating with Jimmy to try and get him to sign. He's got options elsewhere, but we are talking," said Saunders.
