Cook happy with stalemate

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook was happy with a point after seeing his play-off chasing side draw 1-1 at Barnsley.

Jay O'Shea gave the visitors a first-half lead, but Barnsley fought back to force a draw with Sam Winnall equalising just after the hour-mark. Chesterfield took the lead in the 26th minute. Conor Hourihane stumbled and lost possession, Jimmy Ryan seized on the loose ball before finding O'Shea on the right-hand side of the area and the Irishman fired low into the far corner of the net. Barnsley had chances to equalise soon after with Winnall having a shot deflected wide and Martin Cranie heading against the crossbar. Chesterfield survived another major scare when goalkeeper Tommy Lee produced a superb reflex save to keep out George Waring's shot following a corner. The equaliser came when Reds defender Peter Ramage played the ball into the area and Winnall was on hand to finish from close range in the 62nd minute. Cook said: "I'm just happy with a point because it was a difficult game. The pitch is not conducive to passing football. "From being in the ascendency, we gave a poor goal away and we were never in it in the second half. "Barnsley probably deserved the equaliser. On the balance of play, a draw was probably a fair result. "You're always disappointed when you can't hold on to a lead, especially away from home, but that is the nature of the game. "We've been on a good run and we must respect every point that we get. "We just keep going. There are four games to go. We're in a good position but there are likely to be plenty of twists and turns. "The table won't tell any lies at the end of the season. If we're good enough to be in the top six, we will be there." Barnsley head coach Lee Johnson said: "I think we gave it a good go. "We threw everything at them, including the kitchen sink. We were just unfortunate to not get the ball over the line a couple of times. "The conditions were difficult and we had to play in a certain way. "Our two big strikers did a good job and we created a few chances. We were unlucky to not come away with a win. "We looked dangerous from set-pieces in the first half, but I don't think we looked dangerous from open play. "We gave it a right go in the second half. I felt that the players at least showed the commitment and desire and that will improve. "We'll keep going and try to get a result on Tuesday but now probably we have to start planning for the future. "We only have a slim chance of making the play-offs."
