Crewe boss Steve Davis is hoping goalkeeper Ben Garratt may yet play again this season as talks continue over a new contract.

The highly-rated 20-year-old is making good progress in his recovery from a fracture in his leg suffered at Barnsley last month. Garratt is pencilled in for a scan to confirm how close he is to returning, but Davis told the club's official website: "Ben is making real progress, surprising progress. "We will soon know how the bone has healed and that will dictate if we can push him on anymore. "Ben is working hard and he is doing well with his rehab. We hope he could play before the end of the season but we will have to wait and see." On contract talks, Davis added: "I don't think that we are too far on that."
