Martin could depart MK Dons

MK Dons goalkeeper David Martin has admitted he could leave the club at the end of the season in search of Championship football.

The 29-year-old re-joined the Dons in 2011 after a spell away with teams including Liverpool, but his contract is set to expire following the conclusion of this campaign. Martin says he would be happy to stay at the club, but admits he has set his sights on Championship football, whether that is in Milton Keynes or not. He said: "I would love to stay at MK Dons, I would love to, it's a great club and it's ready to go boom into the Championship and hopefully the Premier League. "If we don't do it this year it will make it even harder next year and realistically I'm 29 now, retirement age is 35 so it's something I've really got to think about. "Obviously I'll speak to the club and hopefully we can negotiate a new contract, but at the end of the day I want to play higher as well, so whether that's at MK or a club which is already in the Championship, that might be the case." Goals from Dean Bowditch, Daniel Powell and Ben Reeves secured Karl Robinson's side a first win in five games at Oldham on Tuesday night. The poor run has left the Dons outside the top two, but Martin is pleased the team are back to winning ways and hasn't quite given up on the hunt for automatic promotion just yet. He added: "It was a good feeling - especially for me personally, I've been injured and until last Saturday I'd missed six games in a row. "Seeing the team win only two out of six was really, really difficult to watch from the side, but to get a point on Saturday and three points last night was a great feeling. "You never know (whether we can get automatic promotion), there's nine games left, if Preston keep going the way they're going they deserve to go up at the end of the day. "We've gone from being in control of our destiny to hoping Preston slip up."
