No swift appointment at Coventry

Coventry chief executive Steve Waggott has ruled out appointing a new manager before the weekend.

The Sky Blues are searching for a successor to Steven Pressley, who was sacked on Monday following their slip into the League One relegation zone. Waggott has already met candidates and has meetings scheduled for Thursday and Friday but caretakers Dave Hockaday and Neil MacFarlane will be in charge for Saturday's visit of MK Dons. "I've already met candidates for the position and meetings will continue throughout the week," he said. "There has been very positive interest in the position and some very interesting candidates have come forward. It's vital that we get the right person who is at the right juncture in their career. "We want to accelerate the process but there will not be an appointment before the weekend's game against MK Dons so it is important fans get behind Neil, Dave and the players for what is a crucial match. "As I've said before, we've got a mini-season coming up so it's important we make the right appointment from what is an extremely impressive list of candidates."
