Preston spirit delights Snodin

Preston assistant Glynn Snodin feels their team spirit could prove decisive in gaining promotion after a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe.

After a goalless first half, on-loan Aston Villa midfielder Daniel Johnson scored his first Preston goal just before the hour mark. Paul Gallagher then added a second 18 minutes from time to cement North End's position within the League One play-off places. "Paul Gallagher has been magnificent all season and so is the squad, they all fill in for each other, they fight for one another and hopefully it may continue until May," said Snodin, whose side remain fourth. "We can play any system we want, they are very comfortable with it and they can adapt to it the work they've been doing in training. That's what gets you promotion, working as a team. "It has been a great day and with the results elsewhere it's an even better day. In the first half we were a bit ponderous and a bit slow in our build-up play and we had to up it. "That's what we did and we changed it round - we went to a back four, got more bodies forward and it worked for us. "We had a rallying call at half-time, told them what we wanted them to do and they responded well, took it on board and that's how we got the victory." Preston took the lead in the 58th minute when Callum Robinson pulled the ball back from the left and Johnson swept home from six yards. And North End, who have now won three league games in a row, doubled their lead after 72 minutes when Chris Humphrey squared for Gallagher to finish from close range. "I thought it was a really, really horrible game to watch," said Scunthorpe boss Mark Robins. "From my point for view we didn't play the way we've been used to playing, we've done really well of late and managed games well and today was different. "The amount of games we've played there is always going to be a time where it catches up with you and today was the day that happened - I thought we looked a little leggy. "I've got no complaints with the result, they did more than us in terms of winning the game. Having said that, we had enough decent opportunities and clear-cut chances so the game could have been different. "In a 46-game season you know that you're going to come up against an opponent that is probably slightly better than you on the day. They are a good side. I think on paper they've got the strongest squad in the division."
