Bristol City saw their League Two lead cut to two points as they were beaten 3-2 by struggling Colchester United.

The Essex side got off to a flyer and led 3-0 inside 26 minutes, with Tom Lapslie scoring his first senior goal on three minutes before Macaulay Bonne and Chris Porter scored.

James Tavernier (50) and Aden Flint (61) gave City hope in the second half but Colchester were able to hold on and move out of the bottom four for the first time since November.

MK Dons are closing in on top spot after they thrashed Peterborough 3-0, Will Grigg sending them on the way to a comfortable victory with a fourth minute goal.

Ben Reeves made it 2-0 on the half-hour and scored their third just before half-time as Peterborough dropped all the way to 15th, albeit only four points outside the play-offs.

Third-placed Swindon were surprisingly beaten 2-1 at home by Crawley Town, with Gavin Tomlin scoring the winner two minutes from time for Dean Saunders' relegation-threatened side.

Preston improved their promotion hopes with a 2-0 home win over Scunthorpe, second-half goals from Daniel Johnson and Paul Gallagher the difference between the teams.

Sheffield United stay fifth after fighting back from 2-0 down with 10-men to draw 2-2 with Coventry.

Michael Doyle and Jamie Murphy scored in the 78th and 80th minutes for the Blades, who had Jose Baxter sent off before Dominic Samuel scored both of Coventry's goals.

FA Cup giant-killers Bradford moved into the final play-off berth despite being held 1-1 by Walsall - they leap-frogged Doncaster Rovers who were routed 3-0 at Port Vale.

Fleetwood improved their play-off hopes with a 2-1 win over Notts County, Liam McAlinden and David Ball scoring their goals, and a goal from Ian Henderson saw Rochdale past Chesterfield 1-0.

Adam Morgan scored a last minute equaliser for bottom-side Yeovil in a 2-2 draw with Gillingham, but they are now three points adrift of Leyton Orient, who were 3-0 winners over Oldham - former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena was among their goalscorers.

And Barnsley climbed five points clear of safety thanks to a 2-0 win over Crewe, who they moved above on goal difference into 18th.
