Liverani plays down rumours

Fabio Liverani backed Leyton Orient after they responded to stories of trouble in the camp with a 3-2 win over Chesterfield.

Rumours of discontent in the dressing room followed Orient into the game and they started badly when skipper Nathan Clarke tripped Caolan Lavery and Jay O'Shea buried the 19th-minute penalty for the hosts. Dean Cox played in David Mooney for a 35th-minute equaliser only for Elliot Omozusi to put the ball in his own net as he tried to clear at the back post in the 53rd minute. But Mooney levelled again in the 70th minute and after hold ups when a linesman had to be replaced and Chesterfield skipper Ian Evatt needed treatment for a head injury, Cox pounced on Chesterfield goalkeeper Tommy Lee's mistake in the 11th minute of stoppage time. It was Orient's first win of the year and Liverani, speaking through an interpreter, said: "I have been in football for 20 years so I know the business well and it seems problems only come out when things don't go well on the pitch. "When you are first in the league, problems don't exist. The bottom line is I'm pleased with the players and very proud of them. "It think psychologically it was very important because so far every situation that was like 50-50 went wrong so it was difficult for the players to accept this. "It seemed to be that everything was going wrong again and we would not have deserved to come off the pitch with another loss, but the last-minute goal will hopefully be like the icing on the cake and give the players confidence." Chesterfield manager Paul Cook has now seen his team lose at home twice in the space of five days. Cook said: "It wasn't one of our better performances all through the game and we never really got going. "At the minute we are not functioning as well as we have been, but now we must pick ourselves up and go again and try to get back on the road to where we want to be. "We must give great credit to Orient because they never sat off us and caused us no end of problems in the first half. "We are conceding too many goals at the moment and it's a problem. "It wasn't a good performance and there are no excuses, but these lads haven't let us down very often. "I won't give my team too much criticism because they've been fantastic for me and it shows how far we've come when we are disappointed to be losing to a team of Leyton Orient's quality."
