Swift earns Cooper praise

Mark Cooper lauded the performance of John Swift after his side eased past Barnsley 2-0 to move back up to second in League One.

The Robins secured three points despite Andy Williams seeing a first-half penalty, awarded for a foul on Swift by Tykes midfielder Paul Digby, saved by Ross Turnbull. Teenager Swift joined Swindon on loan last month and his trickery allowed him to pick out Raphael Rossi-Branco to open the scoring for the Robins after 14 minutes. Ben Gladwin wrapped up the points five minutes from time by beating Turnbull from the edge of the area. Cooper said: "I thought it was a really good performance and on another day we could have scored a lot more goals. "I wanted to dominate the middle of the pitch and I think we have an amazing amount of talent there. "The ball seemed to be tied to John's feet. "He is a fantastic footballer technically, he can put people on their backsides and make people look silly. "He is a real good addition to our midfield. "I watch a lot of under-21 games and that's where our main market is and once I spoke to Chelsea, I thought he was an ideal replacement for Massimo Luongo in midfield." Former Swindon boss Danny Wilson had little to cheer about on his return to the County Ground and he bemoaned his side's lack of cutting edge in the final third. The Tykes manager said: "If you give the goal away like we did, you are always going to have your backs against the wall - and it was a very sloppy goal. "We have had a couple of mistakes but I thought as the game went along we made it very difficult for them. "We came out second half and got to grips with the game much better. "We created three of four very good chances but we didn't make the most of them. "You cannot leave yourself wide open and especially when you come to the County Ground. "We got ourselves back in the game and could have quite easily have had an equaliser. I am disappointed with the goals we conceded."
