Robinson staying positive

Karl Robinson played down the disappointment of seeing MK Dons fail to go top of League One after a 1-1 with Scunthorpe.

It was the home side who struck first in the 57th minute when striker Tom Hopper netted his second goal in three games after his loan move from Leicester. But in a game they dominated in the early stages, centre-back Kyle McFadzean rescued a point for the Dons when he headed a 77th-minute equaliser from a corner. "We are still in a great position, just two points behind the leaders and with everyone still to play," said Robinson. "That's not bad is it for a team that was tipped to do nothing this season. "We are already just four points behind our total points tally for last season. "We have a strong squad of players with a good mentality and I think we are only going to get stronger and stronger. "Scunthorpe are a team on the upturn as their results have shown in recent weeks. "But we have come here and looked in control for much of the game. "We just had a little spell of about 12 minutes when we lost our way just after Scunthorpe had scored their goal. "That is the only disappointment for me. "And if I am being honest, Scunthorpe might have nicked a second. "Yes the goal we conceded was a mistake by David Martin, but he was trying to do something I ask him to do, so I have to accept the responsibility for that. "David has been magnificent for us this season with 15 clean sheets, so I am certainly not going to hang him out to dry for one mistake. "We kept going and got back in the game and after that I thought there was only going to be one winner - and that would be us." Scunthorpe boss Mark Robins was encouraged to see his new-look side continue their improvement. They have now lost just once in the last nine league games and Robins said: "We were not great in the first half, we couldn't get our passing going. "MK Dons are a good side and when you keep conceding possession, they will keep coming at you. "We had to change things a bit in the second half and go a bit more direct to try and get into the game. "The goal came at a good time for us. "And we didn't just sit back on it, we kept pushing forward and creating chances looking for another. "But the ball just wouldn't drop kindly for us in the box to get that second. "The only disappointment for me is that we then conceded from a set-piece. "But we were miles better as a team in the second half - and I thought in that period we were the better team. "They have a young midfielder in Dele Alli who they rate in the B#9million bracket, but I think we have kept him fairly quiet. "Our midfield has done really well. "This was our first game for 10 days. The way fixtures have fallen for us recently has not been ideal. "But this was one of our catch-up games and we have taken a point against a very good team. "Now we have got the chance to get some momentum going again."
