Cooper plays down promotion talk

Swindon boss Mark Cooper calmed promotion talk despite the Robins returning to the top of Sky Bet League One.

Andy Williams' double and Jonathan Obika's late strike eased the Robins to a 3-0 win at Coventry as they moved above Bristol City on goal difference. It clinched a seventh win in nine games but Cooper refused to get carried away over his side's promotion hopes. "It's a dangerous thing to say because we were going along pretty well and got walloped 5-0 at Cheltenham in the FA Cup, so we just have to keep going," he said. "We're not looking at anything other than the next game, as boring as it sounds. No-one really thought we'd be where we are but we are really enjoying the ride. "We just try to focus on what we do. We just keep working really hard. They are a really good group, level headed, desperate to work hard and learn more." Williams has scored eight goals in his last six games but Cooper admitted he may rest the in-form hitman to keep him fresh. "He has been great, all the strikers have been good. Big Jon got one with his first touch, it's important we keep them all motivated and ready," he said. "We have three or four good strikers now but, and I don't like to use the word rotate, it's important we try to freshen things up." Williams scored twice in the opening 18 minutes, doubling the lead from the spot after Frank Nouble brought down Louis Thompson, before Obika sealed the win. Defeat left Coventry just four points above the drop zone as they lost in front of their lowest crowd since returning to the Ricoh Arena in September. Only 7,098 watched the loss and boss Steven Pressley admitted they could not cope with the flying Robins. He said: "I think we were beaten by the better side. I don't know if 3-0 was a little flattering but the one thing is, at home, we have to do better than that. "We lacked intensity and allowed them to dictate. "In the second half we were much better, applied our principles and had a great chance at 2-0 and we have to score more goals. "We lost to a better side and one thing it does remind us of is we have a long way to go."
