Rivers set for Oldham trial

Blyth Spartan' FA Cup hero Jarrett Rivers is set to spend this week on trial at Oldham.

The 21-year-old winger scored the late winner in Spartans' shock second-round victory over Hartlepool, while he also set up the first of Robbie Dale's two goals in the dramatic 3-2 loss to Birmingham in the next round. His exploits in the competition for the non-league side have caught the attention of Latics, who will now run the rule over the ex-Middlesbrough trainee at SportsDirect.com Park. "It's a great opportunity for Jarrett to go down there and make an impression," Blyth boss Tom Wade said on his club's official website. "He has been great for us this season and it shows how far we have come that the young lads are getting noticed. They're a good group of lads and they deserve the recognition they are getting. "There are a lot of other clubs interested in signing him and in all honesty the phone hasn't stopped ringing. "We wish him all the best down there and hope it works out for him. We know he will be looked after because they were great with Dan Maguire when they took him on trial last season."
