Chesterfield reject Doyle bid

Chesterfield have rejected a £600,000 bid for hot-shot Eoin Doyle from Championship outfit Rotherham.

The Millers, who have struggled for goals in the Championship this season, placed the offer over the weekend but it was turned down on Monday as the Spireites value the 26-year-old at around the £1.5million mark. It is believed the bid could have involved a cash-plus-player deal with strikers Matt Derbyshire or Jordan Bowery potentially offered to the League One club. Millers boss Steve Evans confirmed before Christmas that Bowery had been a loan target for the Spireites, where the former Aston Villa man began his career, while Derbyshire has struggled at New York Stadium, scoring just one goal in 15 appearances this term. Rotherham could be tempted to go back in for Doyle, who would be a club-record signing, as they are set to receive a six-figure fee for striker Alex Revell's impending move to Cardiff. Doyle has courted plenty of interest from clubs, with Cardiff, Sheffield United and Derby all rumoured to be interested in the striker, who has plundered 22 goals in 27 appearances this season.
