Peterborough goalkeeper Joe Day will complete a permanent move to Newport once the January transfer window opens.

The 24-year-old spent three months on loan at Rodney Parade earlier this season, playing 16 times for County before returning to Posh. Day will rejoin the Exiles on a two-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed club record fee and will be available for Saturday's League Two clash with Carlisle. "I am delighted to be signing permanently with Newport County," Day told the club's official website. "Having been here earlier this season on loan, I wanted to come back and continue the good progress the team has made. "I'm pleased to be working with a great manager, back-room staff and players again - I'm looking forward to getting back into it here. "I would like to thank the board for putting in the money to allow me to sign from Peterborough and I look forward to the next two and a half years at Newport County." Newport boss Justin Edinburgh added: "Joe has already showed us that he has great ability and produced a number of good performances during his time at the club earlier in the season. "He will add to what is already a strong position and this has been highlighted with the fantastic display of Jamie Stephens over the last couple of games."
