Clough keen to build on draws

Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough was disappointed with his side's failure to go on and beat Walsall.

It finished 1-1 at Bramall Lane as Tom Bradshaw equalised for the Saddlers just a few minutes after Chris O'Grady, on loan from Brighton, had opened the scoring for the hosts. United's Jose Baxter went the closest to scoring in the first half, hitting the crossbar with a 25-yard effort in stoppage time. Baxter and O'Grady both headed off target earlier in the game while Stefan Scougall's header lacked the power to trouble Richard O'Donnell in the Walsall goal. O'Grady struck the opening goal after 56 minutes when Baxter's ball found him in space on the right-hand side of the area and he fired a low shot past O'Donnell. But Bradshaw equalised three minutes later, planting a firm header beyond home goalkeeper Mark Howard from Jordan Cook's well-flighted cross. Clough said: "A lot of effort went in on Tuesday night and a lot of effort went in today. "When we got our noses in front, we should have looked after it better. That was the only disappointing factor. "We're not losing many - that's the good thing. It's just a small step to turning these draws into wins now. We know we're pretty close. "Nobody is going to over-commit against us and we have to work our way round that. We got the first goal and then it was just a lapse that let them back into the game. "I was delighted with Chris O'Grady and Che Adams, making his debut, has got serious potential. "It's going to take another three or four games for O'Grady to really get back up to speed. I think we've seen enough of him to suggest that he's going to be a problem at this level. "It's just if Brighton get injuries they might take him back, but we hope not. It was a good pass and a brilliant finish. Walsall manager Dean Smith felt United's goal was offside. He said: "They're a good team with good players and we've had to show a resilient side to us because we were so wasteful on the ball. "It took them to score a goal which, looking at it, was off-side, to kick-start us. "For our goal it was a great ball from Cook and a great header from Bradshaw. It seemed to revitalise us and we played a lot better after that. "Defensively, we were outstanding against some good quality players. We had to work really hard. "I'm quite satisfied with a point. Any time you come away from Bramall Lane with anything is a bonus. "There are a lot of young players doing really well. They all want to take responsibility."
