Johnson facing tough situation

Image: Lee Johnson: Braced for family affair

Lee Johnson admits he has conflicting emotions knowing an Oldham victory over Yeovil could ramp up the pressure on dad Gary Johnson.

The two Johnsons meet for the second time as managers in very different circumstances to their first contest in April 2013, when an Oldham victory helped them stay up while the Glovers still achieved promotion through the play-offs. Latics have steadily grown under Johnson junior ever since and start the weekend in the play-off spots, while Johnson senior is feeling the heat with his side 23rd in the table following relegation from the Championship last season. And should the son achieve success over his father once more, Gary Johnson's team could slip to the very foot of the division. "It's a family event; we had it before and it's roles reversed," said Lee Johnson. "It's a really difficult situation and I'd rather not have it. However, we have to be professional and both myself and my dad will be gunning for the three points. "We'll be going to win it. We've had a few mess about mind games and he keeps reminding me he's got plenty of tricks up his sleeve because he's been in it 25 years. "It's a great occasion for our football club given the fact we're sixth in the league and if we win this game we can cement our place in the top six and hopefully start clawing in the top three or four." Johnson junior even offered a perfect scenario to try and appease his dad before Christmas - an Oldham victory on Saturday, followed by a Yeovil win over Accrington on Tuesday, which would give the Glovers a mouthwatering FA Cup third-round tie against giants Manchester United. "The beauty of it is they've got a game Tuesday and in a selfish, perfect world we'd get the three points Saturday and they'd win the replay Tuesday and get Manchester United at home," the Oldham boss added.
