Crawley Town have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown by mutual consent.

The 33-year-old, whose contract was set to expire at the end of December, leaves the club after making nine appearances since September. Ashdown began his career at Reading before a series of short loan spells away from the Madjeski Stadium ended with a permanent move to Portsmouth in 2004, where he made over 100 appearances in all competitions. "After bringing in Lewis Price we had three goalkeepers which is one too many," Reds manager John Gregory told the official club website. "Jamie is still based in North Yorkshire and wants to be closer to his family so we all felt it was best if he was given the opportunity to find a club nearer home. "He has been a model professional in his short time with us and we wish him all the best for the future."
