Preston land Beckford coup

Bolton striker Jermaine Beckford has made a surprise loan switch to League One side Preston.

Wanderers' top scorer from last season has been out of form this year and although new boss Neil Lennon admitted he tried to sign him when at former club Celtic, Beckford has started the last two games on the bench. And he has now completed an emergency loan deal to move to the Lilywhites until January initially, but that spell will be extended until the end of the season when the transfer window reopens. The 30-year-old played under North End boss Simon Grayson at Leeds and Huddersfield and the manager is hoping he can get the best out of the Jamaica international once again. "You only want to bring in players that you feel will enhance the squad and add to the level of competition that you have and we feel that Jermaine will do that," said Grayson. "I have worked with him twice before and he has a fantastic goal record. "He has played in the Premier League and everyone knows what he is about and I think it's a big coup for us."
