Oldham have sent David Mellor on loan to Vanarama Conference outfit Alfreton for one month.
The 21-year-old, who can play in numerous positions, has appeared for Latics just once since March in a Capital One Cup loss to Middlesbrough. He has played nearly 50 times for the League One club, though, and manager Lee Johnson is hoping his loan spell will help improve his fitness. "Dave had a summer knee injury and has been chasing fitness ever since," Johnson told the club's official website. "This is a good chance for him to go and get games under his belt to benefit all parties." Mellor made his Alfreton debut in a 3-2 win over AFC Telford on Tuesday night.
