Clough satisfied with stalemate

Nigel Clough is content with the progress being made by his Sheffield United team following a 1-1 friendly draw at Northampton.

Having previously lost to Burton, the Blades looked much sharper when going ahead through new-boy Andy Butler, but were denied a morale-boosting victory when conceding a second-half spot-kick. "It was our second game, so you expect a bit more physically and for us to be more competitive, and apart from the penalty they scored, I can't remember them having a serious effort on goal," Clough told BladesPlayer.tv. "We should have scored early on when Chris Porter had two great chances and then we did get the goal when Andy Butler glanced one in from a brilliant free-kick by Ben Davies. "We were entitled to hold onto that lead, but it was just a misjudgement by George Long and we end up drawing instead of winning. The lads who didn't start here will play 60 or 70 minutes on Friday and then we'll look towards stepping up to 90 next week." United featured two trialists, with Scot Robbie Crawford limping off early on and former Chelsea defender Adam Nditi playing for just over an hour at left-back.
