Slade: O's deserve promotion

Russell Slade believes Leyton Orient deserve to be promoted when they take on Rotherham in the play-off final this weekend.

The O's led the League One table for much of the season but faltered in the final straight and were overhauled by Wolves and Brentford. Instead they finished third, level on points with Rotherham, who they will meet in the play-off final at Wembley on Sunday. And Brisbane Road boss Slade feels his unfancied side fully merit a place in the Championship next season. "If I'm honest, we certainly deserve our crack at the Championship," he said. "We deserve to be there on Sunday. But that will not count for anything because Rotherham will feel very much the same. And both teams will be fighting for that slot. "Certainly we feel very proud of what we have achieved this season, 86 points is a fantastic effort. Five out of seven seasons that would have got you automatic promotion. "We feel that we are close. We feel that it is one more push to get over the line. It would be a remarkable achievement for this club and this group."
