Leeds United boss Brian McDermott says he is close to landing his first deal of the transfer window.

McDermott was quizzed about Hull winger Cameron Stewart and Bradford City striker Nahki Wells, and he refused to rule out moves for either player.

"We're close to a deal," he told Leeds' official website.

"We're trying to do something, and I think we're getting close. Steve Bruce is a good friend of mine. Football is one of those worlds where everyone knows everyone's business."

On Wells he added: "Nahki Wells is a good player, but he plays for Bradford, and Phil Parkinson (the Bradford manager) is another good friend of mine.

"I would imagine he would cost a lot of money. You want to take players who can make a difference."
