Port Vale defender Adam Yates believes the team spirit at Vale Park has been the catalyst for the club's recent success.

The Valiants have won seven of their last nine matches and Yates insists the togetherness at the club has been key to Vale's fine run of form.

He told the club's official website: "I think we can be happy with the way we have responded after promotion and the way we have responded to the league.

"That isn't a surprise from the players' or manager's point of view because we know what we have got in that dressing room and it was up to us to go out and prove some doubters wrong. I think we have done that over the last couple of years.

"When I was at Morecambe we had a changing room with a fantastic team atmosphere and spirit and I remember us going on a twenty-odd game unbeaten run there.

"We didn't win too many games but we didn't lose any. We were a tough side to break down and the team spirit was a big factor in that.

"I think we have got more than that in this dressing room at Port Vale. We have lost big characters such as Marc Richards, Lee Collins, Sean Rigg, Lewis Haldane, some who have been here for a long time.

"But the lads who have come in have bought into it and are part of the squad. We had our Christmas party this week and I think the lads know that everyone in that dressing room is fighting for each other's causes."
