Pringle flattered by Royals link

Ben Pringle is flattered to be linked with a move to Reading, but insists the whole Rotherham squad should be attracting attention.

The 24-year-old, who signed a long-term contract in January, was the subject of a reported enquiry from the Royals which led boss Steve Evans to say there would be "no way on this planet" that Pringle would be allowed to leave. Pringle's stock has risen further in recent weeks with goals in the emphatic Sky Bet League One wins over Stevenage and Gillingham, with the team performance against the Gills on Saturday being rated as one of the club's best in recent times. And while the former Derby man is happy to have admirers he knows that he is not the only asset the Millers have. "It's good to know that I am getting linked with those kind of teams, whether it is true or not I don't know," he said. "I just try and play the best football I can, but going on Saturday's performance, if it is true it won't just be me they are watching, there are eight or nine players they could pick from who could easily play at a higher level, so we'll just see what happens." Pringle's turnaround in fortunes at the New York has been well documented after initially struggling to get any game time under former boss Andy Scott. But Evans, who this week turned down the chance to become Sheffield Wednesday's manager, gave Pringle an opportunity, which the winger has taken with aplomb over the last 18 months. And as well as being flattered at Reading's reported interest, he is also happy to know the manager values him. "It's good to hear," he added. "I don't know whether there is any truth in the Reading thing or not, but it is nice to hear that I am wanted here, which wasn't the case before, so that's definitely nice. "The manager has just given me the opportunity. The old manager didn't give me that, I always believed I was good enough to play at this level but I just didn't get the opportunity. "Obviously he takes the credit because he put me in the side, but I like I say the old manager didn't give me the opportunity."
