Johnson to assess trialists

Lee Johnson is casting his eye over five trialists as the Oldham boss looks to shape his team for the 2013/14 season.

The Latics' reserve team will face a Manchester United XI in a behind-closed-doors match on Friday which will feature former Oldham left-back Paul Black, Leicester centre-back Joey Jones, wingers Micah Evans and Matt Wichelow of Blackburn and Watford respectively and Sheffield United academy midfielder Max Pemberton. Defender Black made 60 appearances between 2007 and 2012 for the Latics before moving on to Tranmere last season where he only managed 10 games for Ronnie Moore's men. Oldham narrowly missed out on relegation, despite failing to win their last two League One games, and the league's youngest manager is looking to get a headstart in his first full season in charge at Boundary Park.
