Berrett motivated by Cherries

James Berrett reckons Bournemouth fans' promotion celebrations can spur his own side on to a better showing next season.

The Cumbrians were a match for Bournemouth for long periods on Saturday before the home side clinched a 3-1 win and with it automatic promotion to the Championship to spark scenes of joy among Cherries fans at Dean Court. "Everyone wants to be dancing around on the pitch because they've gone up and we have to look at what we've just seen as an incentive for next season," Carlisle midfielder Berrett said after the match. "We haven't performed anywhere near where we'd hoped to this season so we want to make sure we push on next time." Greg Abbott's side have not met expectation this season and briefly flirted with relegation after securing only one win in 11 games heading into this month before successive victories helped lift them clear of trouble. "We played some good stuff (against Bournemouth), but we can't just do it when we haven't got anything to play for," Berrett added. "Hopefully we can put on a good display in our final home game of the season (against Colchester) to say thank you to the fans for supporting us through what has been a difficult season."
