Law rallies Iron for late escape

Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws insists his side can pull off a great escape on the final day of the season after their 1-0 win at MK Dons.

Karl Hawley tapped in the only goal of the game four minutes before the break to keep alive the Iron's hopes of avoiding the drop as the Dons' play-off hopes were dashed. United are now three points behind 20th-placed Colchester and Laws said: "It's got to be classed as an important win for us and it takes us to the last game of the season with some hope. "It's goal difference that will be a key and we'll probably have to score a couple more goals and hope that Colchester lose their game. "But at least we have got a bite at the cherry in the last game of the season. "It was an important reaction from the players after the second-half performance against Bury, they've won a bit of pride back. "We're still in with a shout, we've still got a little bit of fight left in us and hopefully we can get a huge crowd behind us on Saturday against Swindon. "You just never know what might happen, so let's get everybody together and have a right go at it. "I hammered them after Tuesday, but this was the response that we needed. "Everybody was down, it was like a morgue for a few days, but great credit to the players for coming here and winning."
