Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws expects defender Paul Reid to be fit to face Coventry this weekend.
Iron captain Reid has resumed training after illness forced a three-match absence.
Further good news comes from striker Akpo Sodje, who completed a practice match on Tuesday morning having been sidelined by an ankle injury.
Laws told The Iron Player: "We're all in good spirits and it's nice to see Paul Reid back in action, now that he's overcome the virus he had.
"They are very encouraging signs and we are delighted that our skipper is back for the weekend.
"It gives me a decision to make and it's been a long time since I've had to make a decision.
"Niall Canavan and David Mirfin have done okay, but we have missed Reid's leadership and organisation.
"He will certainly be an important player for us between now and the end of the season so I don't think there is any question that he will be coming back into the side.
"He was struggling with a virus and it took him a bit to get over it but he's ready and raring to go now.
"We've had another big positive with Akpo Sodje training this week. We're pleased with that, and we keep our fingers crossed that we have no recurrences or any other issues, and hopefully he'll be available for the weekend."
