Latics chairman in no rush

Oldham chairman Simon Corney is currently in no rush to replace Tony Philliskirk, saying: "If it isn't broke, don't fix it."

The caretaker manager guided the Latics to a 2-1 victory at Stevenage on Tuesday night which lifted the club out of the League One relegation zone, coming after Saturday's last-gasp 2-2 draw against Everton in the FA Cup and a 3-1 victory over MK Dons in his first match since taking temporary charge from Paul Dickov. The 48-year-old head of youth at Boundary Park is not actively seeking the position on a permanent basis, but Corney - who has spoken to a couple of candidates - knows he would be mad to bring someone else in at the moment with Philliskirk performing so well. "What would anyone do in my position?," Corney told the Oldham Chronicle following Tuesday night's latest victory. "It is pretty obvious. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. "As long as Tony is happy to keep helping us out, I would look an idiot bringing someone in. "Tony knows the players. They have all come up to me and told me how they are enjoying it and how they feel they are being coached really well. "It doesn't mean it will stay like this and it doesn't mean we are not talking to one or two people, because we are. We always have been. "But people are making wild guesses and people are insinuating things that aren't true. Only myself and the board know what is going on."
