Scunthorpe manager Alan Knill feels the pressures on modern-day Football League managers can at times become unbearable.

Knill felt a huge amount of empathy at the weekend for opposite number John Ward, who was sacked by Colchester following their 1-0 defeat at Scunthorpe.

"The two of us spoke before the game. We're all in the same boat. The pressure is always there if you're not winning," Knill told the Iron's official website.

"It goes with the job, but obviously when it actually happens it's disappointing. But what can you do? Somebody makes a decision and you get on with your life."

Knill added: "You have to rely on a supportive board who know the circumstances to help you to work with the situation.

"They in turn then must trust the person in charge of the team to do that. I'm lucky here at Scunthorpe that we have that, but I know managers who are just fire-fighting every day and for some it gets too much."
