Crawley boss Richie Barker tried to take some positives from his side's 3-0 defeat to Portsmouth at Broadfield Stadium.
Town looked the better side for much of the match but were up against it after controversial red cards shown to Josh Simpson and Hope Akpan left them with nine men.
Late goals from Ashley Harris, Luke Rodgers and Izale McLeod then secured a first league win of the season for Pompey.
Barker said: "While we were a man down we were excellent. We set out a game plan and we stuck to it.
"Everyone has an idea of what you do with 10 men, but when you go down to nine it means somebody has made a few mistakes and I think that was the case."
