Bury caretaker boss Peter Shirtliff felt his side were their own worst enemy in losing 2-0 at home to Notts County.

The Shakers remain without a league win after an early goal from Lee Hughes and a late one by Alan Judge.

"We shot ourselves in the foot by conceding a goal after the first minute and again in the last minute," said Shirtliff. "In between that I thought we did pretty well but you can't miss that many chances and win a football match, it's a recipe for disaster.

"We conceded a goal early doors from a set-play and then there was schoolboy stuff at the end for them to get another one. That's football. You've got to stick the ball in the net and if we'd done that with any authority, we'd have got something out of the game.

"We had some great chances and some great situations which fizzled out. Their keeper should've been under a lot more stress. It was powder-puff finishing.

"If you take the goals away, the performance was good. There were a lot of good things but you have to stick the ball into the net. We could've played until midnight and we wouldn't have scored."
