Manager Ronnie Moore reserved special praise for Jake Cassidy after the striker inspired Tranmere to a 4-0 win over Colchester.
Cassidy scored five minutes before half-time and twice after the break, with Zoumana Bakayogo also getting his name on the scoresheet as Moore's men continued their impressive early-season form.
"Jake Cassidy's finishing was fantastic," said Moore after seeing his side go to the top of League One. "He was outstanding while Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro was really unlucky not to get one himself.
"We were strong on the counter-attack and we have enough pace in our side to worry any defence in this division but to be on top after four games means nothing as things can change quickly in football.
"Games will come thick and fast but we will enjoy being where we are at the moment."
