Crewe midfielder Ashley Westwood has been named as club captain ahead of the upcoming season despite his tender age.
The academy graduate and local lad has skippered the team throughout pre-season and takes over the armband from David Artell and Lee Bell, who both left Alex this summer.
Manager Steve Davis opted for the 22-year-old ahead of more experienced candidates Steve Phillips and Adam Dugdale.
"Ash leads by example and his leadership comes from the quality he shows," Davis told the club's official website.
"He can organise and lead and he is a local boy who wants to do well for the club.
"I had to decide on a new captain and there were a few candidates such as Steve and Duggy, but I have said before that I want as many captains as possible out on the pitch."
