Former England international agrees permanent deal
League One promotion hopefuls MK Dons have announced that former loan star Alan Smith has agreed to re-join the club on a two-year contract.
Smith is expected to make his return official on Tuesday afternoon, having linked up with the Dons for pre-season training.
The 31-year-old was a surprise addition to Karl Robinson's ranks in January when he agreed to drop down into the third tier in a loan switch from Newcastle United.
His deal with the Magpies expired this summer, making him a free agent.
Smith expressed a desire to remain with the Dons during his loan spell, and they have moved quickly to bring him in on a permanent basis.
The former England international was unable to help the club to promotion last season, but will be leading the charge towards the Championship in 2012/13.
"After battling against a number of other clubs for Smith's signature, Karl Robinson will be delighted at sealing the permanent signing of his No.1 summer target," read a statement on the Dons' official website.
