New signing Gary Liddle is enthusiastic about the new season and has already set his sights on promotion with Notts County.
Liddle joined the Magpies from npower League One rivals Hartlepool on Thursday after rejecting the offer of a new contract at Victoria Park.
The 26-year-old signed a two-year deal with Keith Curle's side, who narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, and hopes to help the club go one step further during the 2012/13 campaign.
"I'm thrilled to be here. I knew from the first time I met the manager that I wanted to come here. It was just after I decided to leave Hartlepool - they were the first people I met," said Liddle. "I left the meeting knowing I wanted to play my football here because of the ambition of the club.
"The manager wants to take the club forward and I want to play as high as I can. Hopefully we can continue from where the club ended last season because they came so close to the play-offs.
"The division is going to be wide open. Hopefully we will be right up there making a push for promotion. There is no reason we can't be in the top six. This is a good club and we have a good squad. If we play well there is no reason why we shouldn't be pushing up there, not just for the play-off places but above that even."
