Scunthorpe defender Niall Canavan has earned some more international recognition playing for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s.

Canavan made his sixth appearance for his country in their 2-2 draw with Italy in a European Championship qualifier. The 21-year-old played the full 90 minutes alongside former Scunthorpe loanee Shane Duffy as the Irish hit back from two goals down to earn a point at the Sligo Showgrounds thanks to Robbie Brady's second-half penalty and Greg Cunningham's 71st-minute header. Canavan, a product of Scunthorpe's youth system, made 15 appearances for the Iron this season, scoring his only goal in the 2-2 home draw with Chesterfield on New Year's Eve.
