Tranmere striker Adam McGurk hopes being on standby for Northern Ireland is the beginning of regular involvement with the national side.
McGurk and fellow team-mate Robbie Weir were both on call for the friendly against Norway at Windsor Park.
"I'm very proud, I got the news last week from the gaffer," he told the club's official website.
"I was a bit shocked to be honest because I've been out of it for quite a while and this is really my first season of playing week in, week out.
"It's very encouraging to see that they're thinking about me now.
"I just need to crack on with Tranmere, get a couple of goals and some good performances and hopefully get a place in the squad and starting place eventually."
