Sweeney bags new Bury deal

Peter Sweeney has become the latest player to extend his contract at Bury, committing to club for a further two-and-a-half years.

The 26-year-old former Scotland Under-21 international joined the Shakers in summer 2010 following his release by Grimsby and has made 53 appearances, scoring twice. A combination of injuries and a struggle for form meant a frustrating campaign for Sweeney last season, but this term he has only missed a single match and has become an increasingly influential presence for Richie Barker's men in recent weeks. In Bury's 4-2 win over Walsall last month he capped an excellent individual performance with a stunning long-range strike. Sweeney joins top scorer Andy Bishop and captain Steven Schumacher in extending his stay in the north west.
