Injury blow for Balkestein

Rochdale defender Pim Balkestein is expected to be out for around a month after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.

The 24-year-old, who is on loan from Brentford, has made 13 appearances for Steve Eyre's side this season since joining in mid-August. He began his career at Heerenveen in his native Holland before joining Ipswich in 2008. Balkestein then had two loan spells at Brentford during the 2009-10 season and signed permanently for the Bees in the summer of 2010. However, the Dutchman found himself out of favour at Griffin Park following the arrival of Uwe Rosler and was subsequently loaned to Dale until January 18.
