Scunthorpe assistant boss Chris Brass has welcomed the selection headache Michael Nelson and Niall Canavan have presented.
The defensive duo stepped into central defence for Saturday's goalless FA Cup tie at AFC Wimbledon in the absence of Shane Duffy, who was on international duty with the Republic of Ireland Under-21s, and Paul Reid (groin).
Brass told the club's official website: "If we'd had another 48 hours I think Paul would have pulled through, but full credit to Michael and Niall because they have been patient.
"They've kept working hard and it's pleasing that they've stepped in and given us a selection headache, which is what we want ultimately.
"Everyone is competing for a place. Nobody is guaranteed a starting spot."
