Abbott considers loan deal

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott has indicated he will consider acquiring a player on loan to cover for the injured Frank Simek.

The American right-back has not featured for Carlisle since the opening game of the season after struggling with hip and calf problems. "If Frank is not fit I think we have to try to do something," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria. "We were hoping Frank would have been fit by now." The Cumbrians brought James Tavernier in on loan as cover for Simek but the 20-year-old is due to return to parent-club Newcastle following Saturday's game at Exeter. Abbott added: "James is like we are at the minute, anything could happen. He can be unbelievable and he can have his indifferences, but he is a fantastic player on the eye. "There is a mistake in him but that is his age and he will hopefully learn from this spell and learn the dos and don'ts of football, and that is what he is here for."
