Poole puts himself in contention

Hartlepool striker James Poole has boosted his chances for selection after scoring four goals in a reserve outing.

Poole, 21, has made just one league start this campaign, coming off the bench a further nine times, but after Pools' abject defeat at Notts County on Sunday boss Mick Wadsworth has promised changes ahead of the visit of Wycombe. And after he struck four times in the reserves' thumping 5-0 win over Rotherham, he has put himself in pole position for a start. "Before the game the gaffer told them he wasn't happy with the performance on Sunday and that he wanted them to go out and play their way into the team," reserve boss Micky Barron told the club's official website. "I'm sure that their display has given him some things to think about."
