Edwards slams ref in Terriers win

Stevenage defender Phil Edwards criticised referee Steve Rushton after Huddersfield won 2-1 to extend their unbeaten run to 37 matches.

Stevenage tried to upset the home side with gamesmanship and time-wasting tactics and in the later stages tempers flared on the field and on the touchline as rival bosses Lee Clark and Graham Westley clashed in the technical area. Stevenage were left furious when ref Rushton failed to send off Antony Kay, who conceded a late penalty when the last man, and then just booked striker Alan Lee for an alleged elbow on Edwards. Edwards said: "The referee got a couple of big decisions wrong. I got an elbow in the face from Alan Lee, but he was only booked. Then the ref gave a penalty, but didn't send Kay off, who was last man." Edwards added: "In the first half we were poor, but we came out firing in the second. We gave a sloppy goal away, but didn't deserve to lose. We were unlucky."
