Allen: Mahon will get better

Notts County manager Martin Allen has been impressed with the impact Gavin Mahon has made since joining the club.

The 34-year-old midfielder had not played for 21 months because of injuries before moving to Meadow Lane on a short-term pay-as-you-play deal in August that runs until January. He has defied all expectations by starting five league games and playing 45 minutes in a friendly against Juventus in the space of 22 days. Allen told the Nottingham Post: "He's doing well. He's a lot of composure on the ball so is a calming influence on the team. He settles us down. "He had been out for a long time before he came here so there's still room for him to get better and he will when he gets more games under his belt."
